Refrigerators are a critical part of your home in Bethesda. It is a huge in convenience when something goes wrong with them because you normally have to pull all your food out and put it in a cooler. Refrigerators leaking water is a pretty common problem. We’ve put together a short list of some of the things that you can look for to find the source of the problem.
Check the Condensate Line
This may sound complicated but it’s actually fairly easy. As your refrigerator cools the air inside it, condensation forms on the coils inside of it. This water drips down onto a tray and drains through a hole in the tray. The water flows into a hose that exits out the back of your fridge. To check this line for blockage just turn off your refrigerator, pull it out from the wall and look for the drain line on the back. Make sure you have a bucket and paper towels handy if any water drips from the line. Check the line for mold or bacteria growth. If you notice any problems, call a professional Bethesda refrigerator repair technician.
Let the Drain Thaw
In most new refrigerators, the appliance will go into a thaw mode that will allow the condensate lines to thaw out if they have frozen. This feature isn’t available in older models. To thaw the drain, remove your food and pack it in coolers on ice. Turn off your refrigerator and leave the doors open for several hours. This will let the drains thaw and drain.
Check the Drainage Tray
This is a little more complicated and involves removing the back of your refrigerator. This is something that you should not undertake yourself as you could do permanent damage to your refrigerator. If you think this is the problem, you should call your local Bethesda refrigerator repair company.
